Chrome extension “MoviView — Responsive Design Tester” · Last updated: October 27, 2026
What the extension does
MoviView shows the page you're viewing inside device frames (phone, tablet and desktop) in the same tab, to test responsive designs. It only acts on the tab where you turn it on, and stops when you close it.
Data stored in your browser
- Preferences: selected devices, favorites, custom devices, frame color, zoom and panel options. They are saved with Chrome storage (
chrome.storage) and, if Chrome sync is on, Google syncs them across your computers. - PRO license: the key, the ID of this activation and the date of the last check. Stored on this computer only.
- Usage counter: how many times you've opened MoviView and the install date, so it only asks for a review once you've used it for a while. Stored on this computer only.
- Affiliate code: if you came to moviview.pro through an affiliate's link (with
?aff=), the extension keeps that code for 30 days and adds it to the checkout link, so Lemon Squeezy credits the sale to them. Stored on this computer only, and it doesn't identify you.
Data that leaves your device
- License checks: when you activate or deactivate your key, and once a day, the extension sends the key, the activation ID and a generic device name (e.g. “MoviView · macOS”) to Lemon Squeezy (
api.lemonsqueezy.com), which processes MoviView payments as merchant of record. Your purchase details (name, email and payment) are handled by Lemon Squeezy under its privacy policy; MoviView never receives them in the extension. If your key is from Polar (it starts withMOVIVIEW-), the same data goes to Polar (api.polar.sh), which is then the merchant of record and handles your purchase under its privacy policy. - Automatic activation after checkout: when you press "Get PRO", the extension creates a random number for that browser (it doesn't identify you) and adds it to the checkout link. When you pay, Lemon Squeezy notifies us and we store your license key together with that number on our server (Supabase) for up to 30 days, only so the extension can pick it up and turn on PRO without you having to copy it. We don't store your name, email or payment details.
- Plans and prices: the extension downloads the current list of plans and checkout links from our server. That request sends no data about you.
- If you uninstall it: Chrome opens a short, optional survey on moviview.pro. Its address only includes the MoviView version, whether you had PRO and roughly how many times you opened it. If you answer, we save your answer (and your email, only if you type it) on our server (Supabase) to improve MoviView.
- Nothing else. The extension has no analytics, ads or trackers, and never sends the addresses you visit or page content to any server.
Screenshots and videos
Screenshots and videos are created in your browser and downloaded straight to your computer. They are never uploaded to any server.
Permissions and what they're for
- Site access: to show any page you want to test inside the devices. The extension's scripts only act inside the frames it creates.
- Network rules (
declarativeNetRequest): only on the tab where it's on, to let the page show inside the frame and to request the real mobile version with the chosen device's user-agent. - Debugger (
debugger): to give each device its own user-agent when you mix phone and desktop, and for touch emulation. Chrome shows a notice while it's active. - Navigation and requests (
webNavigation, webRequest): to bring device mode back when you reload and to load http links over https inside the devices. Only events from the tab where it's on are read. - Tab capture (
tabCapture): only when you press “Record video”. - Storage and scripting: to save your preferences and show the interface.
This website
moviview.pro uses Google Tag Manager to load Google Ads and Google Analytics. We use them to count visits, to measure how our ads perform (for example, whether a visit from an ad ends in installing MoviView) and to show our ads again to people who visited the site. Google sets cookies for this; in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland they are only used if you accept them in the cookie notice. You can manage your Google ad settings at adssettings.google.com. The extension itself does not use these tags or any cookies.
Your choices
You can deactivate your license from the extension's PRO button, and delete all stored data by removing the extension from chrome://extensions.
